Malaysia National Broadcaster RTM - Technical Operations Centre
A brand new Technical Operations Centre was delivered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the National broadcaster RTM who currently operates 6 channels ( TV1, TV2, Berita RTM, Sukan RTM, TV Okey, TV6). The Solution was delivered by Ideal Systems which includes operational functionalities such as master control and lines control centre, multiple presentation suites, playout channels with a capacity of up to 10 channels, ingest facilities, broadcast business system, site-wide media assets management, archive system, storage system, non-linear edit facility, graphics systems, audio and video post-production facilities.
The facility is built for high availability and redundancy as a requirement from the Government, which means every system will always have a 1+1 or more redundancy. In order to achieve that, Ideal Systems designed and delivered a high availability datacentre which was subdivided into 2 quadrants with multiple circuits, including power, systems and air-conditioning backup.
An entire functional and operations area was designed by Ideal Systems to offer a coherent communication hub as well as a highly functional design. For example, every operator in every area, be it in lines, MCR, ingest, or presentation suite, just needs to turn around & they would be able to look directly into the monitor wall of the other area. This enhances communication and provides a level of confidence to the various operators. Another aspect is maintenance, where engineers from MCR are not more than 20 steps/10 seconds away from the datacentre entrance. This enables quick root cause analysis of faults when the need arises to access the datacentre physically.
